  STL is divided into the following header files  in order to reduce compilation time.

an auxiliary buffer for get_temporary_buffer; it should be compiled and linked if get_temporary_buffer, stable_partition, inplace_merge or stable_sort are used.

(There are some other STL include files besides these but they are mainly for use with DOS and/or Windows C++ compilers, for working with different memory models. They are not necessary for use with the IBM xlC or Apogee apCC compilers.)
